Kayla Scales is a pianist, vocalist, and songwriter from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Her musical journey started at the age of ten, when her mother signed her up for piano lessons with a local woman that taught piano out of her home. While at first she was slow to find interest, she eventually took a routine and stumbled upon something that would bring life long enjoyment Her passion for music steadily grew as she experimented with other instruments such as guitar and flute, which quickly lead to songwriting and singing.
She expanded on her musical education at Tarrant County College Northeast where she studied piano with Ukrainian pianist Alyona Wise and then, upon graduation, to the University of Texas at Arlington where she studied with international competition winning pianists, Dr. Young Hyun Cho and Dr. John Solomons.
Since obtaining a Bachelor of Music degree in 2015, Ms. Scales has found a steady career in music. Not only has she taught lessons for many years, but she is also a audio engineer, a session musician, and formed the band Igimèjí, with whom she is currently touring. In her spare time, she enjoys going for a walk/ run, taking care of her plants and cats, reading, and going to her friends' live shows.
