Soprano Katherine Jones was recently recognized by the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions as an Encouragement Award recipient in 2020. She received her master’s degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Houston (2020). Katherine has over 6 years of experience teaching students ranging in age from preschool to adult in classical, operatic, musical theater, and pop styles as well as introductory through advanced piano. She has helped students prepare for Texas All-State Choir Auditions, Collegiate Voice Program Auditions, as well as various other auditions for prestigious programs around the nation.
Katherine currently performs as a chorister with the Houston Grand Opera, is an active recitalist, and competes in competitions nationwide. In addition to teaching full time, she maintains a very fulfilling performance schedule.
In January of 2020 Katherine had her role debut as Contessa Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Moores Opera Center. Additionally, she has been seen as Diana (Orpheus in the Underworld), Millicent Jordan (Dinner at Eight; Collegiate Premier), Gertrude (Hänsel und Gretel), and Sarah (The Ballad of Baby Doe) all with the Moores Opera Center. Katherine graduated with her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance with a minor in Spanish from the Jacob’s School of Music at Indiana University in 2018. With the Indiana University Opera Theater, Katherine performed the roles of Mrs. Squires in Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man and Mrs. Delgado in the Collegiate premier of Jake Heggie’s It's a Wonderful Life.
