    About Isabella Umberger

Isabella Umberger is a Classically-Trained Soprano and Music Educator from the DMV area, who enjoys singing classical music, opera, and video game music. She grew up singing and playing Flute and Guitar, but began her formal musical training in college.

Isabella attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where she earned her BA in Vocal Performance. There, she studied voice and conducting with Dr. Stephen Caracciolo and voice with Dr. Loriana Markovic and Lisa Dodson. While at UMBC, Bella performed two voice recitals and recorded two pieces of music by Eliza Triolo. She also performed with the UMBC Camerata Chamber Choir, serving as soprano section leader, choir manager, and occasional soloist and conductor.

When studying opera, Isabella performed lead and supporting roles with the UMBC Opera Workshop, including Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), Mimi (La Boheme), Enone (La descente d’Orphee aux enfers), and Fairy 1 (The Fairy Queen). During this time, she also attended Little Patuxent Opera Institute, where she performed as Madame Pompous in Too Many Sopranos.

After graduating into the COVID-19 pandemic era, Isabella took a brief break from music to pursue government contracting, where she worked primarily as a technical writer. Things did not feel right without music in her life, so she quickly found a path to return to the arts and sought out a new teacher, Dr. Lori Lind. Her mentorship and coaching allowed Isabella to work her way back to being performance ready. Now in 2026, Isabella performs regularly in the DMV area and uses her experience of getting back into performance as a point of connection with her students. The journey of learning continues as an artist at all stages.

Isabella has served at a number of local churches as a soloist, ringer, and section leader. She also enjoys collaborating with local overtone group, Harmonic Introductions, to create improvisational works. She provided vocals for a Baltimore 48HR Film Fest entry and performed as Phemie/Chorus/Mimi (cover) in Shakespeare Opera Theatre’s production of La Vie de Boheme.

In 2023, a love of video game music led Isabella to join the Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra (WMGSO), where she serves as soprano chorister and soprano section leader. Through that connection, Isabella has performed at the Kennedy Center in the anchoring choir for the Christopher Tin Sing In, an event celebrating Tin’s works and his re-write of the ending of Turandot; at DAR Constitution Hall for Distant Worlds as a chorister and soprano soloist (“Heavensward”); and at DAR Constitution Hall for NieR Orchestra as a chorister. She is also a featured soloist on WMGSO’s upcoming album Crystals in Time.

As an instructor, Isabella teaches and coaches a wide range of ages -- from young beginners through adults. She approaches singing practically, emphasizing the brain-body-voice connection and healthy singing habits. She is currently performing, seeking out creative and musical opportunities, and enjoys working with her private students. Her goal for her studio is to grow both her students' skill sets and confidence in using their voice as an instrument.

When she is not performing, or teaching, you can find Isabella reading fantasy and science fiction, writing, playing video games, and hanging out with her dog, Rogue.
