Becoming a Renaissance Man isn't for everyone, but Gray Castro has made it his life's mission, especially in the arts, specifically in music. His fire for music is stoked by an array of instruments, from saxophone, bass guitar, piano, guitar, drumset, and a few others. From these skills, Gray emerged as a luminary composer, performer, and educator.
During high school, Gray received many awards, superlatives, and titles. In marching band, Gray was the Drum Major, and in concert band, he was the first-chair saxophonist. Gray has won several superior ratings in both solo and ensemble adjudications. Pursuing a higher education, he studied at the Performing Arts School at the University of Central Florida, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Music with a minor in Psychology.
Gray has performed in diverse settings, showcasing his talents and skills in venues such as the Steinmetz Hall in downtown Orlando with the University of Central Florida's Symphonic Ensemble. In the Symphonic Ensemble, Gray was the principal saxophonist. He also presented his own recital in the University of Central Florida Rehearsal Hall. He's making sound waves across the Orlando area as well as online. Gray is the saxophone, keyboard, backup guitarist, and backup vocalist in Solar Flair, and frequently plays multiple instruments at once. Venues like Will's Pub and Bynx have hosted Solar Flair as their headliner band.
Teaching music has been a cornerstone of Gray's journey. He began tutoring in high school and transitioned to formal teaching midway through university. Gray has taught many private students throughout the Orlando area. In his mind, every student is different, and the approach to each person must be unique to their personality. For Gray, every endeavor contributes to deepening his understanding, enjoyment, and teaching of music.
