Alex Karker has been playing the violin since 2011 when she first heard Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons on the radio. Since then, she has held a strong passion for music. Alex received her Bachelor of Science in Music from Ball State University, where she studied violin with Russian master, Anna Vayman. Additionally, she studied with Shawn Head, Yu-Fang Chen, Zoran Jakovcic, and played under the baton of Douglas Droste in the Ball State Symphony Orchestra (BSSO). Along her journey, Alex became interested in playing viola, and she now enjoys playing and teaching both violin and viola.
Following the completion of her academic studies, Alex began to establish herself as a professional musician and stayed in the Midwest for several years. She toured with the BSSO in Europe where they had a concert at the Rudolfinum (Dvorak Hall) in Prague, and another at the Musikverein (The Golden Hall) in Vienna. After this, Alex moved to Lafayette, Indiana where she became an orchestra assistant, taught private lessons, and performed with a several local orchestras, including the Kokomo Symphony Orchestra, Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, and Danville Symphony Orchestra in Illinois.
Alex's teaching philosophy is that everyone, no matter who you are, where you're from, or what your origins are- deserves to have access to music. It is part of all of us. Outside of music, Alex enjoys spending time with her two cats, Pocky and Pumpkin. She also enjoys riding horses, drawing and painting, baking, and learning about others!
