Teacher Profile: Jan McAmis

About Jan McAmis

Jan has taught music for the past 25 years. After getting her degree, she was the director of the Yamaha Music school. In 2000, Jan owned and operated a Floriday Piano Academy where she taught classroom piano, guitar and Voice lessons for over 200 students. Jan has also maintained her private music studio for the past 25 years.

Jan was classically trained in music and she teaches all of the fundamentals: note reading, rhythm, theory, chords, memorization, ensemble playing. Jan also feels that "playing by ear" is important. Her students learn through ear training to play popular songs they hear on the radio. Jan teaches rock, blues, jazz, religious music as well as a steady diet of classical music. She finds this mixture of styles helps keep the student's interest keen, especially during the teen years.

Jan is also an experienced song writer, and will encourage and assist students in writing their own music. She can also help them record their music.

Jan absolutely loves teaching, and will count it a true privilege to teach your children, and the many adults who take lessons, also!
