About Daniel Montgomery
Dan Montgomery is an upright/electric bassist, vocalist and composer currently pursuing a degree in Jazz Performance from the prestigious Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. He is from Rochester, New York, and studied at the Eastman School of Music while in high school. His musical background is incredibly diverse; he began singing, playing tuba and performing in musicals at age 10, and began studying jazz bass and voice at age 12. Jazz is now his main focus, as he is a member of the elite small vocal jazz group (Extensions), with whom he has won two Downbeat awards, and the elite jazz combo (Frost Sextet) at the University of Miami currently. Dan has been teaching privately for three years, and taught at the Young Musicians Camp at the University of Miami over the summer of 2014, while also working as an RA in the camp dorms. Dan's goals as a teacher are not only to foster his students' musical growth, but their personal growth as well; discipline, patience, and positivity are of as much importance to a student as learning scales and building repertoire.
