    About Ashley Barney

Ashley Barney is an experienced voice teacher and singer who relocated to Winter Park, FL from the Chicago area. While in Chicago, Ashley completed her M.M. in Vocal Performance at DePaul University and her B.M. in Vocal Performance at Wheaton College.

Ashley discovered her passion for teaching singing in a vocal pedagogy course during her undergraduate studies. She is gifted in her ability to readily assess each student's technical needs and provides vocal warm-ups, kinesthetic exercises, and helpful analogies or illustrations to help students of all learning types achieve their singing goals.

Uniquely versatile as a teacher and performer in many vocal genres, Ashley has performed as Belle (Beauty and the Beast) and Dorothy (The Wizard of Oz) in addition to singing jazz and show tunes at summer music festivals. She has performed contemporary/pop music both in church and on the concert stage and is able to harmonize by ear. Ashley has sung as a professional soloist with Opera North (NH), the Green Lake Festival of Music (WI), the Northwestern University Summer Chorus (IL), Opera Southwest (NM), and the North Shore Choral Society (IL). She won a career development award in the 2014 Musicians Club of Women Scholarship and Awards Competition and placed 1st in the 2014 North Shore Choral Society Donald Chen Young Artist Competition. Her most recent performances include singing the soprano role in Haydn's "The Creation" with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, and a "Mozart scenes" program with the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra.
